Math
Today in class, we did a warm up that was addition. It was 2,003,300 more than 10,110,001. Then, we did a common core quick check that was greater than less than with decimals. The lesson was order and compare whole numbers and decimals First, you line up the numbers. Then, you compare the digits in the greatest place. After, compare digits in the next greatest place. You can also place dots on a number line to approximate locations of decimals. You should also add zeros in order to line up and order numbers efficiently. Also be careful of how the greatest and least switch. Then, we did two Plickers questions about ordering numbers with decimals.

Math
On 8-29-17, we did a lot of stuff. We first did a Problem of the Day. It was easy for most of us, because it was a comparing question. Then was the Common Core Quick Check, which was to write the decimals in word and expanded form. In class, we did Lesson 7. It was comparing decimals. We learned that if there is a number, like 0.1 and 0.10, we learned that both are the same. You just need to add a 0 at the 0.1, so then both equal 0.10. Then it was lunchtime Since it was so hot, we had to go inside, but we watched a movie. It was " The Lion King 2." Then it was class time. We went back in and did Lesson 7 Guided Practice, Independent Practice, and Problem Solving pages. Then, we got to see who was the best on ScootPad. If you haven't heard about ScootPad, its a learning website where we do most of our homework this week. We had to do 10 problems today. Our homework were the 10 ScootPad problems, and My Homework Lesson 7. This is what we did today, and I hope it helped you.

Language Arts
In language we were coming in and getting ready for the day. Then, we opened “The U.S. constitution, Then and Now. “  We were annotating a few paragraphs. Next, we took out our notebook and wrote short vowels. We found short vowels in our book and we wrote it in our note book. After that, we were talking and writing about closed syllables and then found the short vowel. Then, we made a chart about short vowels and we had words on the board for whichever one we thought was right. Ms. Booth corrected it together with us as a class.

After that we turned to page H in the book and wrote a few things. We then went to the grammar work shop book. We are learning about simple and complete subjects and predicates. Then, we went to snack. When we came back we talked about a letter to our parents from the Mediterranean Coast. We were writing about what we see in the ocean during the ship wreck. That was the end of language arts. I think we had a pretty good day.

Math
Today was our sixth day of math class, August 28, 2017. The first thing we did in class was discuss and write our homework. We always write our homework for the whole week on Monday, in our agenda, so we wouldn't have to worry about writing everyday. After that, we worked on lesson 5 in our math book. The lesson was based on decimals, fractions, place value, and how to use models to show a decimal. We also did lesson 6 in our math book. Lesson 6 was about how to turn decimals into expanded form and many more. We did an independent practice page, and there were problems that involved writing the value of a place in a decimal. After all the work, math class was about to end. But first, Ms. Booth passed out our graded homework from the week before, and our graded quiz we did on Friday. That is what we did, on our sixth day of math class.

Today, math class wasn’t like any other class, when we finished the problem of the day Mrs. Booth looked for the quick check, but there wasn’t one! We checked the problem of the day and moved onto lesson 3. The lesson was about writing decimals in word form and as fractions. We checked our work and moved onto a fun problem solving activity called plickers. We each got a card with a number on it, then we answered math questions and saw how many people answered the questions correctly.  We had a fun playing the game, which is an unusual time in math class.

Homeroom/Language Arts
Today at school we did P.E. first thing in the morning. Both classes were doing jump rope. Since there were so many kids, we had to figure out groups. We did P.E. for about thirty minutes. Then we went inside the classrooms to switch for the next class.
We worked on a project about the solar eclipse. We also had to stay inside because of the solar eclipse. The solar eclipse lasted till 11:00 am and messed up the schedule. We had to eat inside during the eclipse. So, that's what happened today in and before Language Arts.

Our First Day of Math

Today, once everybody from Mrs. Isensee’s class got settled in their new seats, Ms. Booth discussed our blog. Then we wrote all our homework down for the week in our homework agendas. After that, we got our new math book and we did the first Am I Ready page. Then corrected it. After lunch, we made two different types of place value charts. Then we worked in our math book about place value.

We also learned a new type of expanded form. If the number was 5,400,363, instead of 5,000,000 + 400,000 + 300 +60 + 3, it would be 5 x 1,000,000 + 4 x 100,000 + 3 x 100 + 6 x 10 + 3 x 1. That was our first math class

It is the fourth day of fifth grade. You know how every day of fifth grade that we come in and there is sudden music. We listened to the song "How Far I'll Go" by the creators of Moana. We unpacked and we started our cursive practice.

Today we did a spelling test. For me I thought it was pretty easy. We also took a star test . It started to get harder each time. Then we learned a program called code.org. We got our accounts so we could start to use it. Code looks so much fun to use. Then we did a health lesson and it was about how to plan a health life and how to set health goals. Ms. Booth gave us a paper and we wrote all sorts of definitions down. It was very  important for us to learn. Then we got a worksheet full of questions and they were all not on the same easy level if you don't know the lesson we learned.

We also learned a game who can stack 12 papers with a certain amount of tape the tallest. You only have 12 minutes and you can not talk. It was very  fun. Cal table won, but our table UCLA  won for participation. Finally we went outside and played with the jump ropes. After, we went home for the weekend.

August 16, 2017

Today was our second day of fifth grade! August 16, 2017. Every morning we listen to a song while we unpack. We do that so that we only take a certain amount of time and we dont take too long to unpack. this morning we listened to " How Far I'll Go" from Disney's Moanna.
My class and I love that song! some people were even singing along to the lyrics. Before we came to class Ms. Booth put " I am " poems on our desks. An " I am" poem is a worksheet that tells you to fill in your name, your parents name, your wish, your dreams, and other questions about ourselves. So when we all finished putting our books and backpacks away we got to writing that. After, we put our worksheets in our folder and worked on our " First Day Of Fifth Grade"writing assignment that we started yesturday. we all did about a paragragh or even finished them. we did alot of writing today so, next we wrote a 3 page essay about the most interesting thing we did this summer. Alot of the stories were very interesting. It was supposed to be a narritive. Mine was about a cruise. Scince it is only the second day of fifth grade we have some testing to finish so we took a math test. It was pretty short, I think it was only 32 probloms. Then we had a new project to start called " The Goal Hand ". first, you trace your hand in pencil, then you draw a symbol that stands for one thing you accomplished already that you are proud of inside the hand trace. Then you draw a symbol that stands for something you are working towads outside the hand. You had to have at least 3 symbols each. You also had to color it in. Then we did the final draft of our " First Day Of Fifth Grade". After that, we voted on for playleaders, playleader leaders, gardening committee, student council, classroom jobs and Kool To Be Kind.
After that the day was over! We were done! Today was a good day, I can't wait for tomorrow!

Our First Day of 5th Grade

The first day of school was very exiting.  We did lots of fun things.  Here’s what Ms. Booth’s class did during the first day of school.

When we got into the class we sat down and organized and labeled all of our stuff including, spiral notebooks, composition books and much more of our things.  After we put away all of our stuff we learned about our class blog and how the website worked.  Then Ms. Booth showed us where to put our backpacks, there is a girl closet and a boy one.  We did a social contract.  A social contract is something where we list character traits that we want people to live by and use as something to make our classroom a good place to learn.   For example, here are some character traits that we picked out: intelligent, creative, working and open-minded.  After we did the social contract we took a spelling pre-test and a reading comp. test.  We filled out our agenda book for the whole week.

Today was an awesome day and I can’t wait to do it again.
