Personal Narrative Sample Texts

We are beginning our first narrative writing assignment in Language Arts which will be a personal narrative! Below are some sample personal narratives we read in class.

August 14th- August 17th The First Week of School

The first week of 5th Grade

   On the first day of the week we found our
seats and put our backpacks behind us.
Then Ms.Booth asked for all of the supplies

This is all of the tests, and other things that

and introduced herself. The first thing the we
did was work on our name tags. When we were
done with our name tags she called us up one
by one to take our picture with it. At the end of
the day we packed up. When she excused
us we were given a tiny bag full of starburst!

     The next day Ms.Booth told us to write a
essay on our first day of school. The next thing
we did is we wrote another essay but instead it
is about what we did during the summer.
On Friday the last day of the week we took
a long math test to see what class we are
going into.

On Friday we built towers out of paper and tape as a team building exercise. We had to work together without making any sound. It was so difficult to stay quiet. UCSB table won first place for having the tallest tower.

This is what my class did in the first week
of school at Haynes Elementary.

5^th Grade Year End Details:

5th Grade vs. Staff Softball Game - Monday, 6/4/18 @ 8:30am- 5th graders may bring baseball gloves (clearly marked with child's name) to use during the game. Snack items will be available for purchase for $1.00 the morning of the game. Go 5th graders...I mean Ms. Booth and Mrs. Isensee.., either way GO 5th GRADE!! 

5^th Grade Parent Sponsored Swim Party – Tuesday, 6/5/18 3:00-6:00 p.m. – At Calabasas Swim and Tennis Club – please see the flyers sent home by the room parents.

5th Grade Culmination Ceremony - Wednesday, 6/6/17 - Culmination begins promptly at 10:30 a.m. 

Event Reminders:  

• Students may report to school by 8:00 a.m. but no later than 10 a.m., dressed and ready for Culmination.
• Each family will be given TWO Assigned Seating Tickets to Culmination.
• These tickets will be assigned to the side of the auditorium your child is standing in during the ceremony.
• Additional seats will be available once the two tickets per child are distributed (about 50 seats).
• These seats will be given out on a, FIRST in LINE, FIRST SEATING policy ONLY!

• There will be two lines outside the auditorium before Culmination begins.

-One line will be for assigned ticket holders.

-A second line will be for additional family/friends – FIRST in LINE, FIRST SEATING policy.

• Standing in the back of the auditorium will be allowed at the discretion of the school staff, keeping in mind safety policies and common courtesy.

• In regards to small children, lap seating is allowed for any child under two years old. -Children over two years old will require their own seat or to stand with a guardian in the back of the auditorium.
• Please do not bring balloons into the auditorium as they block the view of others in the auditorium.
• Please be mindful of others when video taping or taking photographs by not blocking the view of others in the auditorium

• Culmination dress code:
• Dresses:  Dresses should be of a youthful nature.  No strapless or halter dresses without a  garment to cover your shoulders.  (Jacket, shawl, etc.)
• Shoes:  Students must be able to walk up stairs and stand for a length of time safely in their dress shoes.  
• Shirts/Pants:  Slacks with a collared shirt are suggested.  Ties and jackets are optional.

• The ceremony will begin at 10:30am and will last a little more than an hour.  Immediately following Culmination, Haynes CES staff invites you to join the culminating class at the outdoor Pavilion for cake! You may take your student home after the ceremony.

Colonial Day

Colonial Day is an all-day celebration of the colonial period in American history. Students participated in hands-on explorations of colonial technology and arts and crafts, including quill calligraphy, tinsmith design, corn husk doll making, weaving, and butter churning. Our Colonial Band performed colonial music, and all of our students danced the Virginia Reel.

An enrichment field trip, Benjamin Franklin’s Colonial Assembly, visited our school that day. Using a mobile printing museum, a printing expert demonstrated colonial era typesetting, printing, and book binding, and explain how Benjamin Franklin grew from apprentice printer to influential writer and publisher. Then an actor playing Benjamin Franklin took our students back in time to recreate some of his famous scientific experiments and highlight his other contributions to our colonies and young country.

Language Arts

In the morning we first took out our homework. Next we had silent reading time. Soon after we worked on our essay on why we should keep recess . Finally  went to recess. When e came back we continued working on her essays. Finally class was over.

Math

We did a few things in math class. First, we did our warm-up and then we corrected it. After that we took out our math books and did a really easy lesson on dividing fractions. Then we tore out our homework and received our fraction worksheet homework. By the time we finished our math pages it was lunch time. Sadly, we had to go out to lunch. When lunch was over we lined up and went into the classroom. After that we did a watched a short video to draw a little picture to help us memorize gallons, quarts, pints, and cups. Lastly we practiced a few problems on a sheet that the teacher made up. Then we switched and math was unfortunately over.

AstroCamp
